Our ERRV Initial Training Shipboard Operations (ITSO) course combines self-paced eLearning with hands-on training.

Target audience

This training is applicable to crew members or those re-joining the ERRV industry.

Overview

Complete eight online modules before attending three days of practical training at our training centre in Aberdeen. This ITSO eLearning course has been approved by OPITO and you will receive your certificate upon successful completion of both eLearning and in-person components.

Aims and objectives

The aim of this course is to equip you with the skills and knowledge required to work as an efficient and effective member of the ERRV (Emergency Response and Rescue Vessel) emergency response team. By the end of the course, you will have gained a comprehensive understanding of the key responsibilities and tasks involved in emergency response operations.

This OPITO-approved course covers the following units and learning outcomes

  • LO1 The role, function and groups of ERRVs
  • LO2 The requirements of legislation and industry guidelines applicable to an ERRV
  • LO3 The manning and chain of command onboard an ERRV
  • LO4 Crew roles in routine standby and emergency situations
  • LO5 Emergency incidents external to the vessel and their detection
  • LO6 The identification and de-activation of emergency locator beacons
  • LO7 The types and sources of incident information and required communication methods
  • LO8 The range of ERRV casualty recovery equipment
  • LO9 The basic anatomy and physiology appropriate to the role of the Basic Medical Aider
  • LO10 The principles and priorities of first aid
  • LO11 The principles of infection and safety precautions in first aid
  • LO12 The ongoing monitoring and recording of the condition of casualties
  • LO13 The transfer of casualties within the ERRV
  • LO14 The preparations for casualty evacuation

Pre-requisites

There are no prerequisites for OPITO ERRV Crew Initial Training Shipboard Operations (ITSO), however Due to certain aspects of the course being potentially physically demanding and/or stressful, delegates will be required to confirm their medical fitness & physical ability to participate on this course by completing our centre medical self-screening form prior to course commencement
